Cuckoo! Cuckoo! - Yes, It's A Fantastic Family Clock From Hermle
Cuckoo Clocks have an enduring appeal and delight both children and adults. Any home that is fortunate enough to have a decorative cuckoo clock as part of its home décor is enlivened by the quirky little bird who comes out of the clock on schedule and coo coos the time for us every night and day. As Mark Twain said in “A Tramp Abroad”: “You’re never too young, or too old, to own a cuckoo clock”.
And this wonderful Hermle Clock with its four dancing figurines is absolutely no exception. This is the perfect Christmas or birthday gift.
With its four dancing figurines, this cuckoo clock from the Black Forest depicts a typical Swiss chalet home. Colorfully decorated scenery surrounds the four dancing figurines that rotate as the minutes pass. The cuckoo comes out as every strikes. The quartz movement chimes the cuckoo call with a waterfall background. A pretty essential feature with this cuckoo clock is that it doesn't coo at night.

As far as we can tell, the first cuckoo clock was owned by Augustus I of Saxony who lived in the sixteenth century. The story goes that he was something of a collector and had a toy ship which told the time and included a model of himself parading before the Roman emporor! But we bet he preferred his cuckoo clock!
As far as Black Forest Cuckoo Clocks are concerned, it is not clear who built the first cuckoo clock in the Black Forest but what we do know is that the unusual clock with the bird call very quickly conquered the region. By the middle of the eighteenth century, several small clock-making shops produced cuckoo clocks with wooden gears. That means that the first Forest Cuckoo clock was made sometime between 1740 and 1750.
